"A $5,050 grant from the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation enabled Prairie
Independent Living Resource Center to order a puppet troupe that will help
children understand those with disabilities.
Prairie Independent Living, at 17 South Main, will receive five life-sized
puppets and scripts from The Kids on the Block program. The puppets will include
a twin child who has cerebral palsy and uses a wheelchair and the twin's
nondisabled sibling. Another puppet will represent a child with Down syndrome,
according to the agency's Chris Owens.
Owens expected the puppets to arrive in time for performances in September or
October. She also said volunteers would be needed to operate the puppets.
Anyone interested in volunteering or seeking more information about the puppets
can call Owens at (620) 663-3989."
