Ms. Wheelchair Pennsylvania
eyes national crown
By: Daveen Rae Kurutz
"As a girl, Joycelyn Banks knew she could
accomplish just about anything with enough effort, though her dream to be a
pageant winner seemed an improbability.
Now, she has reached even that goal.
Banks was crowned Ms. Wheelchair Pennsylvania earlier this year, and she will
represent the state at the national pageant July 31 through Aug. 6 in Little
Rock, Ark.
"I feel God put me in this position for a reason: to reach out to people who
wouldn't necessarily be touched by disabilities," she said.
"As for those who are, I'd like to show them that there is a light at the end of
the tunnel. You can do what you want if you just put your mind to it."
Banks, 28, of McKeesport, was diagnosed with cerebral palsy when she was a year
old and uses a wheelchair."
