October: National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM)
Congress and The Department of Labor has declared
each October National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). By drawing
attention to the employment of our disabled citizens, the program seeks to
highlight the contributions and skills of American workers with disabilities.
Activities planned throughout the nation also help to draw awareness to the
barriers that still present obstacles to the employment of disabled persons.
This effort to educate the American public about issues related to disability
and employment initially began in 1945, to acknowledge the employment needs and
contributions of individuals with all types of disabilities.
